Whiplash injury is part of our modern lives. One in 200 of us will suffer from it at some point. Whiplash is an injury to the spine caused by a sudden jolt to the body - often a road traffic accident. The head is thrown forwards and then backwards rapidly. The immediate result can be injury to bone or soft tissue. Often there is no discomfort or pain for a number of hours - even days in some cases. Symptoms may include:
- Neck Pain
- Shoulder pain
- “Pins and needles” in the hands
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Nausea
Physiotherapy is especially beneficial for the treatment of Whiplash. Early treatment is always preferable, though even long-standing symptoms can be relieved with our expert approach. The aim is to restore normal movement to your neck as quickly as possible and minimize the risk of poor recovery. Manipulation and mobilisation have been shown to be especially beneficial when combined with specific exercises.
